Cimetidine is well-tolerated H2-receptor antagonist. The most common adverse effects of cimetidine are diarrhea, nausea, headache, dizziness, rash, gynecomastia and myalgia. Only a few hypersensitivity reactions to cimetidine have been reported. We report here on a 22 year-old woman who suffered from edema of the lip, hand and foot, and chest tightness after an intravenous injection of cimetidine. The angioedema was improved with antihistamine and systemic steroid. The intradermal skin test to injecting cimetidine was positive. The positive skin test suggests that this rare conditionmay be due to type 1 hypersensitivity.
